For many people in the country of Jamaica, 1958 served as the beginning of a new era of hope and promise. It was during this year that CCCD opened and began instilling in those who could not hear the greatest message that any could ever hope to hear: "Jesus loves you!"
The Knockpatrick campus, located in the south central portion of the isalnd, currently serves over 135 deaf students. Because the work with deaf children requires much individual instruction, classes are kept small in order to provide maximum learning opportunities.
The school buildings are substantial and practical, consisting of classrooms, a chapel, library, dining room, kitchen, and dormitories. Staff housing and vocational facilities are also located on the grounds, along with recreational fields and farming areas. The vegetable gardens and pastureland provide a significant amount of food for the campus, and surplus is sold to support the ministry.
CCCD's Knockpatrick campus has a nationally recognized vocational program for older students in which the young people can gain skills in carpentry and woodworking, cosmetology, food preparation, sewing and computer technology.
