Jamaica Deaf Village :: Present & Future Plans
Employment
The deaf graduates of our CCCD schools need jobs. The first factory employs young deaf men and women who are producing beautiful, solid oak rocking chairs. The chairs are built by hand, then exported to the USA for sale; the resulting funds are used in the continuing development of the Village project. Future industries will generate the finances needed to keep the Village economically viable. The skills taught & utilized at the Village give the deaf workers a healthy sense of dignity and productivity.
Housing
As the deaf adult population of the Village grows, meaningful relationships will be made. There will be a realistic expectation of a marriage partner, a family and a home. The Village offers clean, substantial & affordable housing. Multi-story apartment buildings with 1,2 & 3 bedroom units are available. Construction is continuing on the residential area of 55 single family homes.
Day Care & Medical Facilities
A Day Care centre will provide care for the children of parents employed in the Village. Also in this area will be a mini-hospital and clinic, staffed with a nurse and sick rooms.
Recreation & Schooling
A beautiful Village Green will provide an area for recreation and relaxation. A school near the Village Church will meet the educational needs of the Village children.
