CCCD is committed to helping you and the church fulfill the Great Commission by hosting construction work teams. Personal cross cultural involvement on the mission field will give you the opportunity to broaden your vision and strengthen your commitment to world evangelism.
Jamaica has approximately 2,500 deaf children. Though they live in a country saturated with the Gospel, because of their deafness they represent an unreached people group that is unable to hear the Good News of Christ. CCCD is eager to construct new facilities to accommodate them where they can be taught Sign Language and given an education. Then the Gospel can be communicated to them.
We praise God that about ninety percent of the children at CCCD have accepted Christ as Savior. Jamaica is near to the USA and is easily accessible by air. Because of the tropical climate, we are able to accommodate work teams year round. English is the official language. Work team size may vary from 10 to 150 people staying 1 or 2 weeks. We need people who can do carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work. Unskilled workers are of great value. Masons are always needed as much of the work is with concrete and blocks. As long as the workers are in good health, age is not an important factor. Women prove a real asset to the work teams and are encouraged to come. We have a project manager on the job site to assist your team in making your stay productive and enjoyable.
Work methods and conditions are different and rougher than those in the U.S. It is important to have the right attitude and approach to your visit. Flexibility and a willingness to help in any way are keys to a successful trip. Work teams should consider themselves ambassadors for Christ, missionaries not tourists, willing to serve, willing to be co-laborers with us in reaching the deaf children for the Kingdom of God.
Work teams need to remember that things are done differently in Jamaica. It is our desire to be an encouragement and blessing to the people and not to offend them with our dress or behavior. The standards of Jamaican Christians are very different from those who work in the tourist industry. We would appreciate your team coming to work with us. We will do our best to make your stay productive, enjoyable, and a blessing to you.
